Dual asymptotic behavior in geminate diffusion-influenced reaction

چکیده
The kinetics of excited-state proton transfer to solvent from the strong photoacid 5-cyano-2-naphthol exhibits two different power-law asymptotic tails for acid and base, arising from competition between reversible and irreversible geminate reprotonation. We show that the data are in quantitative agreement with a recently developed theory for this diffusion-influenced reaction. q 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Exact solution for the geminate ABCD reaction
We obtain exact analytic solution for the Green functions and survival probabilities of the reversible, geminate diffusion-influenced reaction A1B↔C1D in Laplace space, and in the time domain for various spatial dimensionalities. The asymptotic behavior ~in one and three dimensions! goes as t, like in the irreversible case, but approach to this limit may occur from either above or below. The im...
متن کاملExact solution of the excited-state geminate A*+B <==> C*+D reaction with two different lifetimes and quenching.
The authors obtain, in the Laplace transform space, the exact analytic solution for the Green function and survival probabilities for the excited-state diffusion-influenced reversible geminate reaction, A*+B <==> C*+D, with two different lifetimes and in the presence of an added quenching process. This extends a previous investigation by Popov and Agmon [J. Chem. Phys. 117, 5770 (2002)] of the ...

متن کاملExcited-state reversible geminate reaction. II. Contact geminate quenching
A realistic description of the kinetics of excited-state proton transfer to solvent ~PTTS! involves several simultaneous processes. Perhaps most well-studied is the reversibility of this diffusion-influenced reaction, leading to the t asymptotic decay of the initially bound state. This shows that the solvated geminate proton may recombine with the base adiabatically, in the excited electronic s...

where an isolated molecule AB dissociates to a geminate pair A + B and recombines reversibly. If spatial inhomogeneities were immaterial, the course of the reaction would be determined solely by the bulk concentrations of A, B, and AB. In this limit the time evolution of these concentrations is governed by the ordinary chemical rate equations.' An initially bound molecule would then disappear i...
